Get Your Home (and yourself) Ready for Winter!
As fall approaches, winter is never far behind – which makes it the perfect time to start preparing for the cold temperatures and harsh conditions. As our homes typically take the brunt of this, here are a few tips to start winterizing so you're ready for that first unexpected flake of snow...
1. Inspect Your Roof, Downspout and Gutters
By adding insulation to the roof, replacing shingles or tiles, and clearing debris from your gutters and downspouts, you help keep heat from escaping, and prevent moisture from getting inside.
Bonus Tip: Plant spring bulbs and remove those that can't survive winter – and seal driveways, brick patios and wood decks.
2. Make Sure Your Winter Equipment is Ready to Go
As your lawn disappears and snow replaces it, be sure you have drained the gas from your lawnmower, and you have your snow blower tuned up. Consider replacing worn rakes and snow shovels, and stock up on bags of ice melt.
Bonus Tip: Do the same with your vehicle! Have it tuned up and winterized so you're ready for slick, wet and snowy conditions.
3. Prevent Plumbing Freezes
Before the first freeze, be sure you know where to find your main water shut-off value in case of emergency. Drain hoses, insulate exposed plumbing pipes, and drain air conditioner pipes.
Bonus Tip: Be prepared for an emergency by putting a kit together. Items should include: candles and matches, blankets, bottled water, non-perishable food (including pet food) and a first aid kit.
4. Get Yourself Prepared
Winter is a great time to make personal changes that can make a positive impact. For example, signing up for an automatic savings transfer to help with holiday spending. Or, choosing mobile banking*, so if you're on the go you can check balances, transfer funds and much more.
If you find yourself needing financing for any of these things, feel free to contact us – we'd love to help you. Or, if getting to the bank is too difficult in bad weather, remember, you can always find us online at www.EastwoodBank.com!
